HOW TO APPLY

Please complete all questions to the best of your ability. Note that Leadership are eligible for, but not guaranteed, travel sponsorship.

EVENT INFORMATION and AVAILABLE POSITIONS

United States Nationals Weekend will take place on June 14-16, 2024 at the Minneapolis Convention Center.

 Note: All staff will receive sealed product based on the number of days that they are on staff

Judges may apply for any mix of roles over the weekend, simply mark the shifts that you are applying for in the Application Form. AVAILABLE ROLES AND COMPENSATION

United States Nationals Head Judge (3-Day) - $1,300 and Six (6) Boxes of current set

United States Nationals is a three (3) day event with seven (7) rounds on Day One and Day Two with the Playoffs played on Sunday. The Judge selected to Head Judge United States Nationals is expected to plan for the event including selecting teams and leads, pre-event briefings, and being a pre-event resource for staff. At the event, the Head Judge is responsible for United States Nationals including taking appeals.

To apply to be the Head Judge of United States Nationals, you should be Level 2 and confident in your ability to run a 500 Player United States Nationals event with twenty (20) floor judges at Professional REL. Head Judges for these events should be Rules and Policy Experts for the game of Flesh and Blood, and have extensive knowledge and experience with Investigations and be familiar with Both Limited and Constructed Tournament Rules.

Note: Applicants for United States Nationals Head Judge will receive supplemental questions via email that must be completed by February 20th, 2024 in order to be considered for the position.

The Calling Head Judge (3-Day) - $1,300 and Six (6) Boxes of current set

The Calling is a two (2) day event with rounds based on attendance on Day One (Saturday) and Day Two (Sunday) and Playoffs played after Day Two on Sunday. The Judge selected to Head Judge The Calling at United States Nationals Weekend is expected to plan for the event including selecting teams and leads, pre-event briefings, and being a pre-event resource for staff. At the event, the Head Judge is responsible for The Calling including taking appeals.

To apply to be the Head Judge of The Calling at United States Nationals Weekend, you should be Level 2 and confident in your ability to run a 700 player event with twenty-five (25) floor judges at Competitive (Day One) and Professional (Day Two) REL. Head Judges for these events should be Rules and Policy Experts for the game of Flesh and Blood, and have extensive knowledge and experience with Investigations and be familiar with Both Limited and Constructed Tournament Rules.

Note: Applicants for The Calling Head Judge at United States Nationals will receive supplemental questions via email that must be completed by February 20th, 2024 in order to be considered for the position.

Side Events Lead (3-Day) - $1,100 and Six (6) Boxes of current set

The Side Events Lead is expected to plan for all side events including pre-event briefings and being a pre-event resource for staff. At the event, the Side Events Lead is responsible for all tournaments that do not have a contracted Head Judge, as well as taking appeals and conducting investigations for their events.

To apply to be the Side Events Lead at United States Nationals Weekend you should be comfortable managing many (5-6) concurrent Flesh and Blood events with a large (10-12) staff of judges.

United States Nationals or The Calling Support Judge (3-Day) - $1,100 and Six (6) Boxes of current set

United States Nationals is a three (3) day event with seven (7) rounds on Day One and Day Two with the Playoffs played on Sunday.

The Calling is a two (2) day event with rounds based on attendance on Day One (Saturday) and Day Two (Sunday) and Playoffs played after Day Two on Sunday.

Judges selected as Support Judges are expected to assist in planning for their assigned events and to be a pre-event resource for staff. At the event, the Support Judge reports to the Head Judge and will assist with taking appeals and stepping in for the Head Judge during breaks.

To apply to be a Support Judge at United States Nationals Weekend, you should be Level 2 and confident in your ability to assist with United States Nationals and The Calling events. Support Judges for these events should be Rules and Policy Experts for the game of Flesh and Blood, and have extensive knowledge and experience with Investigations and be familiar with Both Limited and Constructed Tournament Rules.

Battle Hardened Head Judge (3-Day) - $950 and Six (6) Boxes of current set

The Battle Hardened is a one (1) day event played on Sunday with rounds based on attendance. The Judge selected to Head Judge the Battle Hardened is expected to plan for the event including selecting teams and leads, pre-event briefings, and being a pre-event resource for staff. At the event, the Head Judge is responsible for the Battle Hardened including taking appeals.

To apply to be the Head Judge of the Battle Hardened at United States Nationals Weekend, you should be Level 2 and confident in your ability to run a 300 player Battle Hardened event with a large (8-10) staff of judges at Competitive REL.

Arsenal Judge - $250 and Two (2) Boxes of current set per Day

Judges selected for Arsenal Judge positions at United States Nationals Weekend are expected to be leaders within the Floor Judge staff. Arsenal Judges work approximately 12-hour shifts and are more likely to be used as leads on main events.

Approximate shift times:

  • Friday – 8:30 am – approximately 8:30 pm
  • Saturday – 8:30 am – approximately 8:30 pm
  • Sunday – 8:30 am – approximately 8:30 pm

Judges will receive $250 for each Arsenal Judge Shift. To apply to be an Arsenal Judge at United States Nationals Weekend, you should be confident in your ability to be a leader on the floor and to support all levels of Flesh and Blood events.

EXPECTATIONS

Judges at Star City Games events are expected to positively contribute to the atmosphere of the event. They should behave in a professional manner at all times and constructively engage with players and other staff to create a welcoming and supportive environment for all attendees. Judges are expected to arrive on time and in appropriate attire to begin judging at the start of their assigned shifts.

Judges are expected to prepare for each event by reviewing the Tournament Rules and Policy, Comprehensive Rules, and Penalty Guidelines. These documents can be found at the Flesh and Blood Rules and Policy Center.

JUDGE UNIFORM

Judges at United States Nationals Weekend should bring their own Flesh and Blood judge shirt. If you do not have one, one will be provided for you. For the rest of your uniform, please arrive with black pants and black, comfortable shoes. We ask that you tuck in your Flesh and Blood Judge Shirt and that you do not wear a hat while on shift.

During breaks, or any other time that a judge is off duty, we suggest that you remove or cover your Flesh and Blood Judge Shirt to indicate you are not available.

CONTRACT AND TAX INFORMATION

Judges are independent contractors and will be required to sign an event contract for their work at SCG CON events. Compensation for judges that are residents of the United States will be provided in the form of a check at the conclusion of your final shift of the weekend or mailed to your address following the event. International judges may elect to receive their compensation in the form of a PayPal payment after the event instead. All Judges are required to submit a valid US tax form (W-9 or W-8 BEN) to Star City Games, in order to receive compensation.
