Event Information
Welcome to the Calling Hamburg 2026 - Judge Conference event!
We are happy to announce this conference for the Thursday before the Calling in Hamburg.
Overview
The conference will take place at 16:00 on Thursday the 20th of August and is planned to end around 20:00.
The conference will be supported for presenters and attendees, who attend all 4 seminars (the Judge Program Lead Q&A is not considered for this).
The conference space will prioritize Calling Hamburg weekend staff.
Total capacity is limited. We will process the acceptances based on these criterias:
1) We will accept at least 1 Judge per region (so you can share what you've learned with your community).
2) We will accept Judges that are working towards L2 and completed parts of their checcklist.
3) We will also request feedbacks to the JCRs in case of need, to evaluate community involvement and mentoring activity.
We strongly encourage you to write a good cover letter, outlining why you'd like to attend this Conference and your involvement in the Judge Community, especially if you've been on Staff or on few Premier Events.
We will push a first round of acceptances a day after acceptances for the Calling went out to allow participants to plan their trips.
Future batches will happen in unregular timings until the event.
We will not decline some of the applications once the cap is met. If any of the accepted judges withdraw, we will process more acceptances till we reach full capacity again.
Schedule
Also available as external link.
| Start | End | Title | Presenter | Description |
| 16:00 | 16:10 | Welcome | Christian Gienger | |
| 16:10 | 16:55 | High-Performance Endurance managing: a 14 hour tournament Treating judging as an athletic event | Steve Charlick | How to prepare your mind and body for peak performance. Nutritional and mental reset techniques from a sports coach and teacher to help make use of short and long breaks throughout a day and weekend |
| 17:00 | 17:45 | Sharing, Learning, Connecting: Content Creation as Community Development | Bartosz Hołoszkiewicz | This seminar explores how creating consistent judge‑focused content — in my case, a podcast — becomes a powerful tool for staying motivated, learning continuously, and keeping up with policy and rules during quieter tournament months. It also highlights how sharing that content can strengthen the wider community by providing accessible education, insights, and support for judges and players alike |
| 18:00 | 18:45 | From Floor to Lead and Back Again: every role as a learning opportunity | Arturo Benzi | This seminar explores the different opportunities about your first event as a team lead, how to use the expertise of experienced judges (maybe your mentors!) now present as a member of your team, and how to be helpful as a mentor going back on floor judging! |
| 18:50 | 19:35 | Teamwork in Motion | Ivan Petkovic | Fast-paced, hands-on challenge that puts collaboration and communication to the test. Expect movement, laughter, and a couple of “aha!” moments. |
| 19:40 | 20:00 | Q&A with Klaus | Klaus Lassacher | If you have questions about the Judge Program, this is the time to ask them and get answers from the Judge Program Manager. |
| 20:00 | Dinner | See event forums | Dinner in a nearby restaurant - reservation needed - please respond in event forums |
There will also be a dedicated time to arrange 1 on 1´s with the Judge Program Manager.
Additionally, proctored tests can be arranged.
Please contact us if interested.
