Sack the Shifty

Sack the Shifty is red/yellow/blue Assassin attack action common with 0 cost, 4/3/2 power, and 3 defense. Following the lines of other Assassin attack action cards in Dynasty, Sack the Shifty has a contract ability, where the controlling player is contracted to banish opponents’ cards with base go again.

How does it work?

There are several key points about the contract mechanic and Sack the Shifty in general that players and judges should be aware of as we head further into the Dynasty product.

Contract is both a label keyword and an effect keyword. Under the contract label keyword we have a static ability that produces two continuous effects. The first effect is “contract”, which gives the player an action to complete - when this action is completed, the contract is considered to have been completed. The second effect is one that triggers when the contract is completed and produces a Silver token.

The player is contracted by Sack the Shifty as long as it is in the arena (on the combat chain and not defending). If Sack the Shifty leaves the combat chain (e.g. Warmonger’s Recital) the player is no longer contracted and the contract can no longer be completed. This means that you may fail to complete the contract on Sack the Shifty’s chain link, but if the combat chain is still open, you may complete it on a different chain link of the same combat chain. This can lead to situations where you may complete multiple contracts on the combat chain at once with a single card being banished.

This contract can be completed any number of times as long as the specified set of actions is performed. For Sack the Shifty, the controlling player must be the one to control the effect that banishes the opponent’s cards. In addition, if a single effect would banish two or more cards, Sack the Shifty would trigger for each card banished this way.

The condition that the card has base go again refers to whether the card is printed with go again or not. More specifically, the card banished must simply have “go again” written in their text box, without being conditional (preceded by a condition) or having been granted by an effect.

Summary

Sack the Shifty adds to the growing list of Assassin attack action cards that force the defending player to consider the risk of allowing the assassin to banish cards and gain Silver. With a solid 4 power breakpoint, zero-cost, and 3 defense, Sack the Shifty is a powerful tool in the Assassin’s repertoire.
